John M. Gandy Elementary Makerspaces

Principal Leigh Finch at John M. Gandy Elementary School in Ashland, Virginia has dedicated makerspaces for STEM and Maker education programs. The STEM makerspace is stocked with supplies for projects and includes multiple workspaces. Storage is available for ongoing maker projects. Computer workstations are available for research and technology based projects, such as programming robots or building web pages. The STEM makerspace facilitates hands-on learning activities for science and math.

A small group makerspace is located directly next to special education classrooms for Maker workshops. Students are rewarded for positive actions in the classroom with maker projects focused on STEM activities and constructive group social dynamics. Activities include Electric Makers, Robot Makers, Rocket Makers, and Model Train Makers.
